BIO
Lisa Thaler, LCSW has maintained a private psychotherapy
practice in New York City since 1991. She received her BA from Amherst College, her
MSW from New York University and completed her post-graduate Psychoanalytic training
at The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute. She has treated individuals, couples
and families. In addition to her private practice, she has run groups for the
Renfrew Center, New York University’s Counseling Center and The Women’s
Therapy Centre Institute. She also is an adjunct faculty member of the Women’s
Therapy Centre Institute and has taught and supervised other Psychotherapists in training.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lisa always has enjoyed a passion for
rock and roll. An avid music fan for most of her life, she began to play guitar in 1994. She has fronted
her band, Frisky Business, from 1999 to the present and performs regularly in venues in New York City.
Lisa’s extensive professional background and the joy she experiences while playing music have lead her
to bring her two passions together. It is this confluence that makes Lisa an ideal
clinician for providing therapy to bands. From both a personal and professional standpoint,
she deeply understands the enjoyment that playing music can bring, the internal depths of
emotion from which music is created and expressed, the sense of connection that arises
from playing music together, as well as the maladaptive dynamics and conflicts that arise within a group.
